About TA-KO — Asian Inspired Tacos in Stoke Newington, London N16
TA-KO is an independent restaurant at 18 Stoke Newington High Street, London N16, serving Asian-inspired tacos on handmade soft corn tortillas. We take the relaxed, casual energy of a Mexican taqueria and bring it together with the bold, bright flavours of East and Southeast Asian street food — think nahm jim, char siu, tamarind, miso, and sriracha alongside avocado, salsa, and fresh lime.
Our entire food menu is prepared without gluten, making TA-KO one of the few fully gluten-free restaurants in Stoke Newington and across North London. We don't treat gluten-free as an afterthought — it's built into everything we do.
As featured in Hot Dinners, Time Out, Secret London, DesignMyNight, Square Meal, Hackney Citizen, Hackney Gazette, Munch Magazine, and Luxuriate Life.
The Food
Our tacos are served on 12cm soft corn tortillas — a nod to Mexico's famous street food tradition — and packed with flavour combinations you won't find anywhere else in London. The menu runs from torched seabass with mandarin sambal to palm sugar-glazed beef short rib with blackberry sriracha, and our crispy cauliflower taco with black bean and tamarind ragù has become one of the most talked-about dishes in Stoke Newington.
We offer a generous selection of vegan and vegetarian tacos alongside fish, meat, and seafood options. Highlights include our char siu jackfruit with shiitake mushrooms and mango, and the blackened river trout with smoked aubergine nahm prik and lime labneh. Our infamous MSG Fries — nori-dusted with kampot pepper mayo — are a must.
Every dish is assembled in-house with care, and we change the menu seasonally to keep things fresh.
Cocktails, Wine and Drinks
Our cocktail list takes classics and twists them with the same inventive spirit as the kitchen. The Pickled Jalapeño Margarita, Toasted Rice Mezcal Old Fashioned, and Sesame Rye are among the most creative cocktails in Stoke Newington. We also serve an Espresso Martini, a Banana Negroni, and a full mocktail menu for non-drinkers.
Our wine list focuses on natural, organic, and biodynamic producers from Europe, Australia, and Argentina — available by the glass, carafe, or bottle. We also pour craft beers from London's Forest Road Brewing Co. and guest breweries.

Our Story
TA-KO grew out of Victory Mansion, the cocktail bar and restaurant that occupied 18 Stoke Newington High Street from 2015 to 2024. Over those years, the Asian-inspired taco concept that started as a menu addition became the thing people came for. In June 2024, we made it official — relaunching the restaurant as TA-KO to put the food front and centre.
The ethos hasn't changed. We're still the same independent team, still obsessed with flavour, still making everything in-house, and still pouring some of the best cocktails on Stokey High Street.
